Just got back from Shelter Island after the pre-run of the road to the Wades Beach. Done this just before the sky opened and rained hard. The beach has now a volleyball sand court, beech located full size picnicking benches and tables, plenty of parking (FREE, no permit) and most important newly painted clean rest rooms and changing rooms for those who want to go swimming. No BBQ pits but we can do the Hot Dogs and Hamburgers like at Garage Parties. Going to need help cooking and someone to bring a valley ball?

The link below includes a photo of the beach.  Looking forward to seeing everyone, and pray for SUNSHINE.

Surprise...Saturday both Rob Friedman and I have ventured back to Shelter Island and found out that yes the parking is free but not from 4th of July thru Labor day weekend! The fee is $28 per car so we need to vote on this at the meeting. I only have 3 plus mine confirmation on who is going so we may want to postpone until after Labor Day? I'm furious! Very confused Sadd

Might want to go late in the day.  I know most beaches in Southampton that require stickers or a fee stop collecting a fee at 5:00 and it stays light till late.  You could call Shelter island town hall or (village)and see if that's the case there too.  I for one, that has to pay $30.00 for my season beach pass doesn't want to shell out another $28.00 for one day.  We could to to Montauk it's $6.00 to park ...... But no swimming.  I don't know of any beach around here without a sticker or fee!

We'll talk about this BBQ party at the next club meeting on Sunday the 19th. There is another beach we have visited at the Shelter Island north side and there is a free parking designated area but it gets full very early in the day. We will ask the town if after 5pm is free to park at the Wades beach, good idea, thank you.  My last option is to do it like every year at my house backyard and pool. I just wanted someplace different so I do not have to do the cooking and cleaning.
