Hello, all.  Sorry that I have not been participating on the site much, but marriage, new baby, and business has been keeping me very busy the last 18 months.

The reason for this post is that I am looking for an independent shop to look over my baby. She is a garage kept, 38,000 mile car that gets oil changed every 4,000-5,000 miles, and I have been flushing the fluids yearly; so, she has been obsessively maintained and relatively trouble free.  I am not familiar enough to look over the suspension and drive train myself and would like to have this done.  This is more for preventive maintenance than required work, at least I hope that is all that it is.

Any recommendations?

One of the members here is a certified mini tech.  I can't remember his name.  But I'm sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction

Any other independent shops in Nassau or Queens.

I have a 2003 mini copper with 120,000 miles.

I had the power steering fan replaced.
Now I am getting the power steering cutout like on the 2004 and 2005s

Lately the ABS light was coming on. And this morning it would not start.
Electric is on. it might be the starter. I am in Long Beach, NY. I see a lot of positive reviews on L&M Foreign Cars http://brooklyn.citysearch.com/profile/7334628/brooklyn_ny/l_m_foreign_cars.html

anyone ever use them?

I am too picky to take my car to most places, and I would never go back to Habberstad. Bang Head!
Recently I had Ed (MINITECH) do some work on my MCS. He did a good job. Ed is a great mechanic with a wealth of knowledge about our cars and BMW's too.

Based on my experience with Ed, I would say it is worth traveling from Long Beach to see him.  I'm sure Ed will be honest with you, diagnose the issue, and get it fixed properly (the first time), all at a very reasonable price.

I have had Ed do several repairs on my car  and if he finds something else wrong.. he will call you  and I find him being a gentleman and one of the most knowledgable guys on our cars.  In fact  a few years ago  the club tried to hook ed up with a separate garage so we would have an  independent shop.  another choice is to just check Hassel   they have been changing their people recently ,,

but as far as Ed  goes   nothing but excellent comments.. and I have a 2003 with 131K

I had the same problem with my 03 mini power steering cut off when it wants to. I bought the car to the dealer 3 times never found a problem.

the 03's had an electro-hydraulic power steering.. I forgot I had Ed do that repair too  and his comment was not just the fan but the unit and fan together.. he checked to see if my fan was still ok  before he installed a new one.. also had him do a strut then which he spotted and since he was going in from under the car  he had to drop park of the subframe anyway..

hey  the car had over 100k when he did that repair

I'd like to thank you guys for posting about Ed.  He and I have been in touch - he's patiently answered all my questions and my *stuff* is being shipped as I post.   happy boogie

I've got to wait 'til March before I can have Ed install:

H&R springs
19mm rear sway bar - ALTA
front and rear end links - ALTA

It's gonna be a long winter...  Bang Head!

Thanks again everyone!
