btw folks, while Sue and I have never gone on MOT, we have been up the mountain many times and have gone to the whites for many years.. I know some fun roads (if they are open) that you can take as well as several waterfalls that are easy to visit
fun but forest roads:
Tripoli Rd from North Woodstock to Waterville Valley (pronounced Triple-EyeI
Mt Clinton Rd from Crawford Depot to the Cog Railway Rd ... which leads directly to
Jefferson Notch Rd (the highest maintained rd in NH) which goes to Rt 2 then head east on Rt 2 toward Gorham to Pinkham B rd (aka Dolly Copp Rd) which bypasses Gorham and goes to Rt 16. Halfway along this rd is Triple Falls. a very pretty and VERY short hike.
Another fun one that is good but Paved is Hurricane Mountain Rd . it makes the Auto Road seem tame. and at the summit is a trail to Black Cap..
Wow.. so many roads and places..
one more item.. Bridel Veil falls trail along the Coppermine Brook (from Easton Rd from Franconia or from North Woodstock after Kinsman Notch) there is a tale about a plaque attributed to Bette Davis.. see the blog
