i too have issues with the radio placement
but peak toque at 1,500 rpms is nice
and the aero kit will now be painted and fitted at the factory instead of at the dealer

Wonder if the new Turbodiesel will be introduced into the US market - am reading that the turbodiesel will hit the Euro market in early 2007...

I like the new mini..the interior is better but i like the old exterior better.. the turbo motor is lighter and more powerful...if the factory can put a 195ft-lb torque overboost feature in imagine what power after market tuners will unleash with a reflash exhaust and intake...the only thing I'm not sure about is the suspension and steering need to drive it for that.... Look I'm driving

There have been multiple threads on this topic on NAM, many to which I have posted, so I'll just do a summary here.

The first time I saw a 'BMW' MINI was at an auto show at the Nassau Coliseum in 2002.  I was dumbstruck.  The car screamed 'take me home' at me.  For any number of reasons involving bad decisions and timing, I didn't actually buy one until spring 2005.

I have a Cooper, not an S, and I made this decision based on a number of factors.  The upshot of this is that the extra oomph of the S was not as important to me as all of these other factors added together.  I am a very visually-oriented person.

The R56 does not affect me emotionally the way the the R50 did when I saw it.  Yes, it does look like a MINI, there's no denying that.  But the details of its physical design are not as spot-on 'correct' as the R50/53 are, imho.

If there had been no R50/53, or, alternatively, if the R56 was the car that was introduced in 2002, would I have felt the same way about it as I did the R50?  I don't know, and there is probably no way to know.  I tend to think that I would have thought it was cool, but that level of attraction would not have been there.  I do know that between the time of the new car's snuck-out spy shots, previewed months ago, and now, the R56 leaves me cold, both inside and out.

I plan on keeping my car for a very long time.

I test drove it today, and loved it. I then drove salesman Dennis Minieros 06 S. Then they told me my car was worth little more than a regular 04 Cooper S  Tamper tantrum . Then I decided it wasn't happenin'  Tamper tamper! . I will have to see what other dealers say.
