Philadelphia and RLI-IV Rally Updates/News:

Last updated (08/07/07 at 10:30am)

Based on our last Sunday August 5th Club meeting at Hassel the following are some changes and additions to the Club Events Schedule. Please take notice of the dates and times, and reserve your calendar to join us in the MOTORING fun.

A major change has been done to the RLI-IV Round Long Island Rally schedule; the initially scheduled date of Sunday 08/26/2007 has been changed to Sunday 09/23/2007 as per member’s majority vote. Several benefits from this change will include no parking or Jones beach route and access fees, nicer and more pleasant weather temperatures including that we will avoid the crowded summer traffic conditions.

The good new is that we have replaced the same Sunday 08/26/2007 date RLI-IV event with an all day Tour of Philadelphia Historical Town. We are planning on 3 stops thru out this tour and the first stop will be a surprise visit to HELIX-13 MINI Garage and Shop for about ½ hour. After arriving and parking in center of the Philadelphia historical town we are planning on a visit to the Town Hall, Liberty Bell and Benjamin Franklin Printing House including more all based on available time of about 2-3 hours. We would like to schedule a lunch stop at a simple place inexpensive place so if anyone knows one, and would like to share it with us, please post it on this forum category. The return trip has been chaged to the same route as we used for the last Delaware River Rally, and as everyone knows we have had a great time and fun that day. The expected tolls will be about $6.00 in total for this trip.

I just received a 1st suggestion where to go for lunch in Philadelphia: http://www.tonylukes.com/

Here are two more so post your preferences.

Please NOTE that the Philadelphia Tour will start at 6:30am(Could change?) and RLI-IV Rally will start at 7:30 am leaving from Farmingdale, Airport Plaza by the Bagel Factory-MAP: http://www.google.com/maps?q=234+Airport+Plaza+Blvd,+Farmingdale,+NY+11735,+USA&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title

Racing enthusiasts; Please come and join us at the Coliseum BMWCCA NY chapter Autocross events and cheer on the club member’s race drivers. The scheduled dates are 08/25/2007, 09/22/2007 and 10/28/2007 starting at 8am in front of the Coliseum building just left from the main entrance gates. Of course you can also Autocross if you wish-the fee is $40 for two rounds of four intensive speed and skill demanding races.

That’s all for now folks….
 Thank You!

Just a thought....RLI starting at 7:30 is a bit early considering we usually get a lot of participants from off LI who will need to drive a while just to get to the starting point.

if we are primarily looking at the independence hall national park area... there is a parking garage under the mall north of the liberty bell and south of the constitution center (under the new visitors center).. I rememebr there were some others several blocks away.. but this puts us with the independence hall area.. libertry bell, constitution center, betsey ross.. elfret's alley.. etc..   ben franklin house (without the special glasses that read messages on backs of famous documents)..

if you want to go to the art museum.. that's a totally diffferent area..

Sue and I have wallked around some parts of phili (mostly this area.. and heading south to the south street area) for a few years.. though not in a fair number of years.. we used to find single parking several blocks south of independence hall and near the waterfront area.. but the last time (about 3 years ago) we went to the constitution center.. and parked in the underground lot.. I dont remember it being that much money.. cheaper than NY for sure!!   oh  and the Bourse is right next to Independence Hall (basically north of Carpenter's Hall)

dont know if we will stay for the long ride back thru the gap.. done that... (like passing Washington Crossing park .. ) seeing the fish ladder on the Lehigh.. etc..

sometimes we would shoot out to the amish country for dinner and some shoofly pie..

basically.. my sister used to live in North Phili... my neice was born in Einstein med center.

oh    for those who have been to sawgrass mills down in Florida.. huge outlet mall... there is a sister mall right IN Phili call Franklin Mills.

oh and of course let's not forget Eastern State Penitentiary... go to jail.. go directly to jail.. do not pass go.. do not collect $200.. (which is somewhat of an art museum now.. no kidding!!!) (ps.. it was used in 12 Monkeys)

hmm.. what else???  ok.. that's enough

R

oh  my normal way to go.. for the past... umpteen years... is out Outerbridge.. to (ahem) Rt 1   down to the Trenton ByPass (well you got to build bypasses).. down to Rt 1 in PA and I-95 down to Center City

one important last minute thought..

anyone who wants to visit the liberty bell or independence hall will go thru a security similar to airports.

meaning leave your leathermen in the car!
