well.. this is an idea Chris and I had.. though I need to talk to him too...
not sure as to when... but I know Sue and I will want to check it out ahead of time...

basically this...
I ride thru the lancaster area.. supposedly Chris knows as much of the area if not more than I do..
(sue and I went on a ride 2-3 years ago on a covered bridge tour that was a lot of fun.. but it was with a local group from there...) we would zig zag across the back roads .. maybe hitting some bridges...   and yes we would leave from here early saturday... for those who want to stay over.. go for it (hence the semi hemi... (NOT A CAR HEMI.. BUT A HALF NOTE) aka half weekend)
play Mini Golf.(hence mini mini-g). and end up at Stolfus Farm in Intercourse.. a family style eating  that's not really commercial and  real nice place.

any thoughts??

and of course we will have to test.. let alone the way sue and I drive down... (and no we DONT take the NJ Tpk... we like urban archaology.. hence rt 1.. (dont knock it until you try it
).. to PS tpk to rt 202.. rt 30bypass..  (also we could go down rt 23... there are so many ways)

How about the weekend after July 4th? Both me and Marilyn have time off and would be great to be with friends. BTW I am planing on the BBQ at my house maybe July 4th if anyone is interested? Yes the pool liner is installed and pool is filling up with fresh water now all I need is to get it warm enough to get in it...

I was thinking toward the end of July...  again on a saturday   since Stoltfus' is not open on Sundays  .. and most of the area is rather closed down

but over the next few weeks... we will have to take a test drive... YES!

I've done some plotting of a route... which takes us over (hopefully) 4 covered bridges in Lancaster County... zig zagging along the back roads...  to the Mini Golf Place.  Afterwards to Dutch Haven for Shoo Fly Pie. (hey  my favorite), then  up to Stoltfus Farm Family Restaurant. (and avoiding the hugmongus mess passing thru Intercourse.. yes I am avoiding Intercourse (no jokes please.. I've  heard them all)

the Covered Bridges I hope to pass thru are Bucher's Mill CB (#3), Red Run CB (#24), Weaver's Mill CB (#25), and Pool Forge CB (#26)

again.. sometime ths month sue and I (and maybe one or two others ) will test this on a SATURDAY.  And the reason for this is thus.. if you wish to make a weekend out of it.... fine! stay overnite in one of the many hotels/motels in the area.. (ladies... there is a tangers outlet on rt 30 closer to Lancaster... let alone the VF outlet in Reading) hence the name semi hemi weekend

any other comments are welcomed...  but for the nuance.. we will be coming down rt 1 (hey  it's my way and you can get cheap gas) and it's mostly highway now.   then joing up with the Pa tpk.. and taking it to the 222/reading/ephrata exit.  (yes there are other places... there is Lititz.. and lancaster.. and york  and more.....

we;ve gone all over.. hershey park... zig zagging ito western lancaster...the Rr museum of PA.. Gast Motorcars.. so much down there.. for those who want other places on the way back.. you have longwood gardens in Kennett Square... you have the Brandywine River Museum with a great collection of Andrew Wyeth (since he lived there.. his son Jamie went to college with my sister Eileen.

battlefields, and more and MORE  AND MORE!!!!!

hey  PA is one hell of a state!!!

Based on no work for Marilyn on Saturday I may join you, but no promises. Trike over!

as far as lodging...  Spruce Lane Lodge, family owned and run...
http://www.sprucelanelodge.com
Clean, very accomodating and close to all, in the heart of Amish Country.  2 GREAT diners within 2 miles of the place - Smoketown Diner and Jennies.

Attractions and shopping:
1) Strasburg Railroad
2) Water's Edge Mini Golf
3) Lititz Pretzel Factory
4) HERSHEY!!!!!!
5) Rockvale Outlets - REAL BIG
6) Farms and Roads
6) If you go down on a Friday, there is a an OUTDOOR/INDOOR Flea Market in Lititz, that is on roughly a 10 acre plot of land, THE BEST pretzel you've ever had, its about the size of someone's head, cost - $3.00
7) The Strasburg farm CORN Maize
Cool Did we mention Mini Golf?Huh  i know of 3 phenomenal courses, each themed and very well kept and challenging.
9) Lancaster Barnstormers

more to come.... YES!

hey  Sue is asking about staying overnite even THIS weekend..

AND for those who want to do the ralley with us, but want to drive down on Friday and stay over  .. we can meet at the Holiday Inn Parking Lot near the exit on 272.. that's where we will come off the Pa Tpk and come into the amish country.. (I mean.. I've come in from Morgan Town down rt 23.. or from Downingtown rt 30.. all diferent ways to drive thru.. and it's.. well.. just driving thru is relaxing

oh yes.. like ALL my rallies.. this is for enjoyment and visual and peaceful rides..  ESPECIALLY if you get behind a buggy.. ya aint movin!..

but the trick here is... and purpose of getting off the island and out of New York is to SLOW DOWN!!!... and I'm not talking driving speeds.  Sue and I have been coming down here forever.  We used to wake up on a saturday when we lived in East Rockaway  (with my old Mazda 323) and at 11 am.. we said.. lets have dinner in the Amish country.. and Zipp.. away we went.. sometimes we would stay over... sometimes not

if you run out of things to do... then there is something wrong with you..

ps  might call a customer to join us.. he lives near reading... and on the other lancaster covered bridge ride we went on..he showed up in a BMW bike

so far,.. only have 4 bridges (one was moved off the road) we should pass thru.. that's the point of THIS weekends test.  we hope the real one will be in late July

you would enjoy this place.  The cabins/cottages are open air, in that you can use the in rrom A/C or you can open the windows and enjoy the PA air...

The Corn Maize opens after July 4th, the Hot Air balloon rides are open now.

go crazy, have fun, but go slow...  PA Troopers are a wily bunch.

that is so true!!!

for the test run.. we will be leaving early on Saturday... from Airport Plaza.  Since the ride is aout 3 hours to Lancaster.. or so... I figure no later than .. what.. 7:30? 8?.. and we will drive thru the country side.. over 3 or 4 covered bridges..... taking it easy.. and ending up at Water's Edge MiniGolf in Ronks.
After a round of golf...(yes  I know about eating...  not sure where.. so i would advise bring food from Bagel Factory or at the snackbar at the minigolf) we will head down to rt 30 and enjoy a bit of 1950's-1960's kitsch.. and stop off at Dutch Haven for ShooFly Pie (hey  i have to bring home 4 so far!!!) then further on Rt 30 to Paradise (ahh) and then over our last covered bridge up to Intercourse and over to Stoltzfus Farm Restaurant for Food Family style

and yes the test run is open to any.. but remember.. I've not been on ALL these roads and some of them not for 10+ years!!  so far we dont know if we will stay over or just drive back up that afternoon/evening. might even try the place Chris recommended.. if not I know a motel 6 and a Super 8 in the area.  but usualy Sue and I stay in the Allentown area.. and then head up to the waterfalls...
if we were to stay down south.. we might end up in the Brandywine area... south of Phili but also real pretty (talked about it earlier).. I remember staying at a Macintosh Inn in Media way long ago. just to visit the Brandywine River Museum... who knows...  (of course you could go to Hershey in the other direction...  or watch TMI all aglow.  Or you could zig zag afterwards and end up in Centralia.. also all aglow (heehee). As I said... all sorts of choices.. Ask Pete.. he knows all about Mauch Chunk and East Mauck Chunk (aka Jim Thorpe))

so  who's with me?? (I know Paul might come along)

why do ifeel im the only one talking???  c'mon guy  this is your club!
i know paul might join us  hell  he might even stay over too if i know  him.  chris iknow would stay if he could (he has before).  and i know pete.. he would join us if he could.  hell  roman would join us if he could.

but this is an active club.  i would like some other feedback..do you like this idea for a ralley/ride?  i know others have asked abt me always ending up @ a place to eat..hey..why not.
and i knw gas is pricey (ps  we go down rt 1 in NJ.where gas is cheaper).  but it's a way to get away and chill.. we had only three of us on the first of romans water gap rides. and like 10 on the followup.

well  ive said enough.  hell  this is from my phone on the am commute
