Would anyone be interested in driving up to Cold Spring NY (Putnam County), going for a hike either in Fahnstock or Breakneck Mountain.  We can also head into town (Cold Spring) for lunch or maybe late breakfast before the hike.

The route I am planning is generally, the Taconic to Rt. 301. then Rt. 9 to Bear Mountain Bridge and then to Taconic Parkway.

I will give better details once I see if there is any interest.  Just a reminder:  Oct. 9th is on Yom Kippur so many of you may be off from work.  Let's MOTOR!

There is a hike in Fhanestock on Rt 301 that we can modify to one hour or two hours.  Im thinking this will be best for anyone.  It is not too strenuous.

Well the the roads up along the Taconic, Rt 301 and Rt 9D towards Bear Mountain have great scenery and wind around enough, particularly south of Bear Mt. Bridge.   Route 9D has a pretty colorful Revolutionary War history (Benedict Arnold escaped upon this road) and Cold Spring is a cool little village along the Hudson.  It is filled with restaurants, cafe, antique shops and among other things typical of a country town.  There are great views of the Hudson from Cold Spring and the views along 9D have some of the greatest for driving without travelling hours away from NYC.

Well here I go again.  If anyone is interested taking a drive up  north, please let me know soon.

Note: If you have a lady friend or (friends if your really randy), I think they will enjoy this road trip.

Here is the proposed route for the Hike and Drive Rally.

Meet:  Fort Totten Parking Lot
Bell Blvd. exit off of the Cross Island Parkway (Bayside NY)
Time: 9am

Whitestone Bridge to the Hutchinson Parkway to exit 13.

Cross county parkway to the Sprain/Taconic Parkway to ROUTE 301.

Stop at Fahnstock Park for one hour hike (on Route 301).

After hike, take Rt. 301 to Cold Spring for lunch.

Restaurant Ideas.

The Foundry Cafe

Or

Cold Spring Depot Restaurant
(which is located on the railway line and presumably haunted!)

We can stay in Cold Spring and meander among the stores and the river front area.

After Cold Spring….

We can take historic Route 9D south towards Bear Mountain Bridge to Bear Mountain Parkway East and back over to the Taconic and Home.

We're interseted in the hike at Fahnstock.  We've hiked there before, and if we could arrange a Sunday, like Oct. 5, that would be great.  I have a friend with a Mini who would also join us.  Rick and Judy

Due to a lack of interest, the Hike and Drive Rally idea is cancelled for time being.
