UPDATE

Over 500 individuals have enlisted, and, from the St. Baldrick's event website (since this is a nationwide charity) the one here in Fairfield CT / www.teambrent.com / has raised almost $60,000 and we're not even the week of the event!

Come one MINI, Chevy Vega, Pontiac Aztek, Edsel, Ford Pinto, Mini Marcos, or any other car; come all!

It's going to be a lot of fun.  We have several sponsors, we have the radio station covering the event, and we (RIOT Computer Technology) are also sponsoring the event.

Hope to see you there!

Jonathan-I believe there are St. Baldricks events being held nationwide on 8 March. There's one being held in Babylon Village:

Childhood Cancer Fundraiser - Be a HERO to kids with cancer

St. Baldrick's Foundation Shaving the way to Conquer Kids' Cancer

On Sunday March 8, 2009 12:30pm hosted by Lily Flannigans Pub of Babylon along with the Babylon Fire Department, we will be hosting a fundraiser for childrens cancer research. the Event is based on the largely popoular St. Baldricks Foundation in which participants shave thier heads with the support of sponsors to raise money for this cause.

WITHOUT shaving your heads, you can support the cause by comming out and rooting on those who will shave thier heads. Also, there will be many Drink and Buffet Specials for all those attending. RAFFLES, RAFFLES and MORE RAFFLES willbe available to help the fundraising.

Info at www.stbaldricks.org Look forward to seeing you there.

That's correct Pete... I was just trying to get a group of MINIs together, that's all.  St. Baldrick's is a national organization, and teambrent.com is in the top of the category for the amount of money raised.

Two reasons why I thought it would be a good time in Fairfield;

1 - Was trying to make it a MINI event where we would have a lot of MINIs there Smiley
2 - TeamBrent (www.teambrent.com) has raised almost $60,000 - one of the highest amounts in the country Wink  - Pete are you going to shave your head? Cheesy ...I actually was thinking about it.  Oh, and you might not get a chance to see the Sound Tigers and last year the NY Islanders showed up!

Anyone can go anywhere he/she would like for this cause since the funds are appropriated for the same charity; I just know many of the people in Fairfield, but that's fine, if you want to go to the one in Babylon it all goes to the same worthy cause!

It might have been nice to see some of you as well, not to mention that it could turn out to be a 2nd year Pepe's Pizza Run... Wink which is right down the street practically Cheesy

OK-not to hijack Zoomer's thread-after the meeting on Sunday, March 8 all are invited to come down to Lily Flannigan's on Deer Park Avenue in Babylon.  I will have my head shaved for the cause.  My Buddy Ben is stepping up to the bat up in Connecticut.  Any other takers down here?

I'll do it.  But does it count, given the 'hairstyle' I currently sport?

LOL Scott. It'll count!  Maybe I'll do a pint or two beforehand to get the courage to do this.

Meeting discussion idea - as we keep talking about the various charities we would like to support let's add this to the list and maybe next year we raise donations (a little earlier than this year) for those who are willing to shave.

To zoomer's idea, with some more advanced planning we can get the larger MINI community to attend one event CT, NJ, or LI.

As per Dana McCreesh at the Connecticut event with the local radio station, many MINIs (supposedly) lots of kids and fun, it's never too late to raise some fundage.  Go to the original post in this thread and you can donate from the page (if you are able to afford it due to the hard times everyone understands).  Even services for the event means that one sponsors the event (as we are sponsoring the photography portion of it - just look at benzamg's photo stream on flicr - or his group on Facebook, LOL

Thanks Adam, though.

Anyone else down for a "haircut" on Sunday?  This event covers all bases: --it's close (Deer Park Ave., Babylon)
          --great cause
--event location has free food/drink specials

I plan on heading over after Sunday's meeting...
